SDG 6 and Water Action Agenda Special Event.

Introduced in 2020, the SDG 6 Special Event takes place annually during the High-level Political Forum giving space for discussion on water-related targets within the SDG 6 Global Acceleration Framework. At the mid-point between the upcoming 2026 UN Water Conference and the previous UN 2023 Water Conference - which saw over 800 commitments from governments, civil society, and the private sector under the Water Action Agenda - this Special Event will feature a discussion on how the inclusive and collaborative preparatory process driven by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates is building continuity and catalyzing global action for SDG 6 . Water Action Agenda commitment holders will discuss implementation and what enabling environments are needed for innovative solutions. Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) 10 Years on – Our Common Journey (HLPF 2025 Side Event).

This High-level Side Event co-hosted by the peer learning countries Finland, Germany, Guatemala, Indonesia, Nigeria, Thailand and South Africa will shine a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of third-time reporters to this year's HLPF. The countries on the panel wish to share their experiences with ambitious VNR reporting and SDG delivery, and thereby motivate next year's cohort of VNR reporting countries to follow suit. The panel discussion also aims to contribute to the considerations for a framework beyond 2030. Accelerating Social Progress to Boost SDG Implementation: A UN DESA Global Policy Dialogue.

This dialogue is made possible by the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund. UN DESA will organize a Global Policy Dialogue on the sidelines of HLPF exploring how we can guide integrated policy solutions to advance several of the SDGs under review at this year's High-level Political Forum: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). With less than six years remaining to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the world must urgently accelerate progress. Energy is key to this: SDG7 on clean and affordable energy is one of the SDGs with the biggest potential for positive impact on the other SDGs. Realising this potential requires approaches and solutions that focus on interlinkages. In recognition of the importance of energy, the UN General Assembly in 2024 extended the UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All to 2030, renewing the global mandate for coordinated and intensified efforts to achieve SDG7.
